The first digit denotes the region where the tickets were issued and the last two digits followed by the hyphen identify the amount of Guaranteed Prize Draw Selections on the ticket. Through this method, checking and selection are made easy. The $1 million GUARANTEED PRIZE DRAW is unconnected from the main draw. There is only one winning selection for the "GUARANTEED PRIZE DRAW” which is different the Jackpot prize winning numbers. Players are not allowed to choose their own Selections to avoid multiple winners. Same numbers will not be shared among two numbers. The winning Selection is drawn randomly by the computer from the issued ticket numbers.
During the winter holidays, LOTTO 6/49 announces the “Super Draw” which offers four additional Guaranteed Prizes. It is drawn in addition to the guaranteed $1 million prize draw and multi-million dollar jackpot. There is no additional cost included in the ticket price. The results of the super draw will be announced after the usual draw and the players can claim their prize within one year from the Draw date. After a year the prize is expired which cannot be claimed.
If 6 million LOTTO 6/49 plays are involved, there would be 6 million Selections for the guaranteed $1 Million Prize Draw, so the odds of anyone Selection being drawn would be 1 in 6 million. ENCORE is the best way to eliminate the odds of winning. It increases the chance by 1 in 9.17 by matching left to right, right to left, or a combination of both for cash prizes. This service is accessible only in Ontario. Also, a new Free Play prize category is introduced for matching 2 of 6 numbers for better overall odds and the Jackpots start at $5 million creating more Canadian lottery players. This new format improves the winning from 1 in 32.3 to 1 in 6.6.
